Graphic Designer (Volunteer)

We are looking for graphic designers to support us at Cann Hall Deen & Education Trust.

You should be proficient in the use of design applications and have knowledge of creating for print and social media.

Maktab Teacher

We are on the lookout for enthusiastic teachers to join Cann Hall Maktab and help us inspire the next generation.

Our classes run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5.00pm – 7.15pm.

Pay: £65/week plus bonuses

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of tajweed and its application with precision and clarity
  • General knowledge of Islamic Sciences e.g. Fiqh, Seerah, Adab and ability to deliver lessons
  • To have some portions of the Quran memorised, e.g. juz 30
  • Willingness to learn subjects and topics as students progress
  • Ability to relate well with staff, students and parents
  • Experience managing behaviour in the classroom or willingness to learn
  • Uphold the Islamic ethos, work and aims of the Maktab
  • Good communicator and team player
  • Positive and patient demeanour
  • Creative and open-minded
  • Punctual and organised

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with children
  • Experience in delivering the Safar syllabus
  • Educated to Aalimiyyah level or equivalent
  • Completion of Hifz

Job Description - Roles & Responsibilities

Planning
The Maktab teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the Safar syllabus. This will include but not be limited to:

  • Preparing weekly lesson plans which will take into consideration the subjects that will be delivered, activities, break time and meeting individual needs of students
  • Having lesson plans and supplies readily available in the event a substitute teacher is needed
  • Arranging and setting up the classroom for students
  • Maintaining the Islamic ethos and values within the classroom environment

Communication
This will include but not be limited to:

  • Attending staff meetings and updating the team on the teaching and learning of students
  • Communicating with parents on issues relating to class and students
  • Working alongside staff and parents to ensure the individual needs of students are met
  • Notifying the office as soon as possible when a substitute teacher is needed and if possible, arrange for your own substitute
  • Maintaining Parent and child confidentiality
  • Informing Senior staff of challenging students (behaviour or academic progress) so that parents and staff can work together in helping the students improve and progress

Administration
This may include but is not limited to:

  • Keeping track of student progress
  • Completing student reports for parent's evening

Professional & Academic Development
The Maktab teacher should take responsibility for developing himself/herself professionally and academically. This may include but is not limited to:

  • Attending staff training
  • Continuing higher academic studies on the Islamic Sciences (Aalimiyyah), or attending relevant modular courses offered by institutes such as Ebrahim College
  • Developing precision and clarity in the recitation of the Quran and being willing to recite to senior staff (or to a private teacher) to further improve
  • Continue with memorisation of the Quran, or if Hifz has already been achieved, then regularly revise; to obtain an ijazah certification in recitation & tajweed
  • Continue to acquire more knowledge as the class progresses. (For example, memorising and learning the benefits of a supplication which students may advance onto)

Youth Team (Volunteer)

We are looking for enthusiastic members of the community (16+) to join our youth club team every weekend!

  • Gain experience working with children
